TWC provides training for our volunteer positions, so it is not always necessary to have experience. Commitment and the right attitude can go along way!
Please contact TWC's Volunteer Coordinator to learn more about volunteering at TWC, or to discuss how your unique skills can be translated into a custom-made volunteer opportunity.

Every day in the GTA, countless animals become involved in situations that require immediate attention. The majority of Volunteer Drivers are involved in transporting sick, injured or orphaned wild animals from across the GTA and beyond into TWC’s hospital. Experienced and interested volunteer drivers also have the opportunity to be involved in wild animal releases!
Every spring and summer, TWC admits hundreds of orphaned wild baby animals. Due to time and space limitations, TWC relies on devoted foster parents who have the time and space to raise these babies in their own homes.
At present, TWC’s Wildlife Hotline handles more than 30,000 calls per year and up to 200 calls a day during the busy spring and summer seasons. Because of the high volume of calls, callers are directed to leave detailed messages that are reviewed by trained Wildlife Hotline staff members. Volunteers play an integral role in the function of the hotline by transcribing messages and ensuring that situations of concern are dealt with immediately, as well as arranging pick ups for wildlife in distress.
During the busy spring and summer seasons, there can be upwards of 300 wild animals in care at Toronto Wildlife Centre at one time, with additional emergency cases arriving each day. Wildlife Rehabilitation Volunteers play an integral part in the rehabilitation of patients by providing care to the animals and assisting with facility maintenance.
With thousands of animals being cared for at TWC each year, a tremendous amount of resources are dedicated to both maintaining the upkeep of the facility and ensuring that supplies are cleaned and readily accessible for Wildlife Rehabilitation staff and volunteers.
From updating the database to stuffing envelopes to bookkeeping – administrative volunteers are very much appreciated as there are no limits to where you can assist! These volunteer positions are so specialized that there are many volunteers who assist TWC remotely from the comfort of their own home.
Special Event and Project Volunteers
Toronto Wildlife Centre is looking to use your unique skills and interests in our short term events and projects. The Wild Ball (and other Fundraising events), Public Education Campaigns and Specialized Construction Projects are just some of the fields you can help with. These positions may be perfect for volunteers who have an interest in helping animals but are only able to commit to a small period of time.
Group Volunteering Opportunities
A great way to help build team spirit, TWC has numerous exciting opportunities for group volunteering. Groups can spend one day on a single project or work on part of a larger on-going project (e.g. cage building, gardening, fencing, landscaping, painting etc.).
Educational Placement Opportunities
As part of TWC’s commitment to the community and education, exciting opportunities are available for students who want to gain experience as part of a co-op program, internship, or externship in the field of wildlife medicine and rehabilitation.
