Human Resources Student Placement

 

Reports to:Human Resources Generalist

Location: Downsview Park (Hybrid/Remote)

Start Date: Start dates flexible

Time Commitment: Minimum of 200 hours, flexible scheduling based on school scheduling requirements.

Placement Summary:

During your placement, you will provide administrative support and contribute to HR projects and initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance the personnel experience and promote a positive workplace culture.

Students will receive on-the-job training and support throughout their placement to enhance their proficiency in key HR functions and competencies.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and HR process flows.
  • Support recruitment by posting job openings, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews.
  • Aid in onboarding new employees and off-boarding departing employees.
  • Maintain employee records for accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a post secondary course relevant to Human Resources.
  • Current tetanus vaccine

Wildlife Rehabilitation Student Placement

 

Reports to: Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager

Location: Downsview Park or Rouge Park

Start Date: Start dates flexible

Time Commitment: Minimum of 200 hours, flexible scheduling based on school scheduling requirements.

Placement Summary:

During your placement, you will be providing direct care for wild patients that includes a wide variety of Ontario’s native birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. You will be given the opportunity to see what wildlife rehabilitation is really like; providing you with hands-on experience that may lead you down an exciting new career path.

Some of the skills learned include the following:

  • Species identification
  • Natural history and behaviour
  • Safe Animal Handling and Restraint of wild animals
  • Prepare Specialised Diets for a wide variety of species
  • All aspects of Wildlife Care

Students will work under the supervision of wildlife rehabilitators.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a post secondary course relevant to animal care or environmental work.
  • Current tetanus vaccine
  • Rabies immunization is an asset but not required.

Veterinary Student Placement

Reports to: Head Veterinarian

Location: Currently based at Downsview Park, and possibly relocating to the Rouge National Urban Park during 2024

Start Date: Spring/Summer 2024 (start dates flexible)

Placement Summary:

During your placement, you will be observing and assisting the veterinary team during their daily rounds and procedures. You will gain experience working with a variety of native Ontario species including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Some of the skills learned include the following:

  • Species identification
  • Natural history and behaviour
  • Animal handling and husbandry
  • Recognizing common diseases and injuries
  • Supportive care procedures, including gavaging and fluid therapy
  • Wound management
  • Radiographic positioning and interpretation of radiographs
  • Anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring in wildlife
  • Parasitology
  • Sample collection and in-house laboratory testing
  • Record keeping using online database
  • Release criteria

Students will work under the supervision of professional wildlife veterinarians, technicians and rehabilitators.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in the final year of Veterinary school at an accredited university
  • Current tetanus vaccine
  • Rabies immunization – a copy of your titre from within the past year will be required
