Northern shrike release

By December 9, 2013 April 30th, 2015 Wildlife Rescue

This Northern Shrike was admitted to TWC on November 19th after being hit by a car. It was treated for an injured eye and fractured shoulder, and released back onto its winter territory this past weekend.

Did you know that shrikes are one of the only predatory songbirds, catching small prey like grasshoppers, frogs, and mice, and impaling them on thorny bushes or barbed wire to “save for later”?
