The weather on Thursday July 6th, the day of Toronto Wildlife Centre’s first annual Wild Ball, was absolutely perfect. Volunteer event designer Nancy Patterson created an elegant custom installation at the Don Valley Brickworks using show-stopping fabric structures, unique floral arrangements and custom ice sculptures.

The red brick industrial feel of the Brickworks was countered by beautiful flowers, trendy white couches and martini tables, large wildlife prints, delicious food displays, well stocked bars and relaxing tunes filling the air.

CP24 Principal Anchor and host of “Animal House Calls” Ann Rohmer was there to welcome everyone to the Wild Ball. Entertaining highlights of the event included the Habeeba Hobeika Egyptian Dance Company, Canadian bands Glass Tiger and The Spoons, and celebrity DJ’s Diego Fuentes and Traci Melchor.

Wild Ball guests were also treated to a rare peek at wild baby animals thanks to TWC’s one-of-a-kind wildlife viewing booth. Using one-way glass, this booth enables people to see wild babies without scaring them!

To delight the taste buds, Stephen Gardner, chef & owner of Urban Herbivore and Fressen, prepared hundreds of mouth-watering vegan hors d’oeuvres. Volunteer bartenders served up delicious martinis with names like Pink Mink and Coyote Pretty! The Friendly Thai was also there cooking up “the best Pad Thai in the city”, and Pizza Pizza created thin crust gourmet pizzas especially for The Wild Ball. For anyone with a sweet tooth, it was very hard to resist the Eat My Words cupcakes – each flowered cupcake a tasty work of art!

“The Wild Ball was a beautiful, sophisticated event – and a lot of fun!”
