A: The patient care areas of TWC are not open to the public. Because the animals in our care are wild, to be in captivity is a terrifying experience for them. Stress can severely inhibit recovery from injury or illness, and can even be fatal. Therefore, TWC staff and volunteers go to great lengths to reduce stress, and keep contact with humans (even visual contact) to an absolute minimum.
TWC does have a public area at our facility in Parc Downsview Park where at certain times of the year visitors may be able to see some animals through one-way viewing windows (so that the animals cannot see us), or on video feeds, however the hospital itself is open only to staff and volunteers. Each year, behind the scenes tours of the entire facility are offered to all current donors and volunteers at TWC’s Annual Open House which is usually held in the spring.
