Toronto Wildlife Centre’s
Wildlife Hotline has been serving the public 365 days a year since
1993, and is the busiest hotline of its kind in North America.
Highly-trained staff (who undergo intensive training for up to a
year) respond to approximately 30,000 calls annually. During peak seasons - the spring and summer - the Wildlife Hotline can receive
several calls a minute, many of which are of an urgent nature.
The Wildlife Hotline helps people and wildlife in 4 ways:
1. By assessing calls about sick, injured and orphaned wild animals
2. By helping to resolve nuisance situations humanely and
effectively
3. By providing general wildlife and wildlife habitat-related
information
4. By coordinating rescues of wildlife in distress
Toronto Wildlife Centre has always been committed to being proactive
in helping wildlife and the environments on which they depend. The
Wildlife Hotline helps people to understand the interdependence
between wildlife, humans and environmental health.
An important focus of our education program is helping people to
find positive ways of co-existing with the wild animals in their
communities. Our Wildlife Hotline Staff provide advice to the public
on creating wildlife habitat on their home, work, school and
community land.
